With its super racy looks and high performance geometry, one might expect the Focus Izalco Max 9 Series to handle like a machine built more for speed and less for comfort. And while it’s undoubtedly a fast bike, if we were asked to describe how it rides out on the road in one word, that word would be ‘smooth’.
Sure, Focus has packed this bike full of buzzwords -- responsive, stiff, aero, etc. -- and while that’s all there, the Izalco 9 just feels smoother than butter beneath you: like floating on a lovely carbon cloud. But don’t get it twisted, it still handles like a race car -- letting you really rail it through the corners -- and it’s nimble and light enough to shoot up the climbs too. It’s just that it feels so good while you’re doing it.
The previous generation of this bike was our most popular bike five years in a row, and we’d strongly suggest that the new generation is even better. But don’t just take our word for it: the huge increase in people riding these in the last year or so is added proof that Focus has truly nailed it with this one.
SRAM's Red AXS groupset ties the whole package up with a nice little bow. It doesn't get much better than that.
